Gholdengo: The 1000th Pokémon
Gholdengo, known as the Coin Entity Pokémon, is a dual-type Steel/Ghost monster that made its debut in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It evolves from the Chest Form of the monster Gimmighoul. This Pokémon is quite special, as it’s genderless, does not lay eggs, and cannot be hatched from an egg. Its appearance resembles a humanoid figure made up of stacks of gold coins—1,000 of them, as its official Pokédex entry claims.
Its smooth appearance is fascinating, given that it’s made out of coins. Gholdengo has three fingers on each hand and feet without toes. It also wears a unique belt with a diamond buckle and chest, paying homage to Gimmighoul, its earlier evolution. There’s no mistaking it; Gholdengo appreciates its origins while being a fresh addition to the Pokémon family.
Gholdengo can make friends with anyone and is deadly in battle. It can toss gold coins at opponents with its Make It Rain move, an attack exclusive to Gholdengo. Additionally, it can create a surfboard out of gold coins to move around. Everything about this Pokémon is quite odd, from its design to the requirement of special Gimmighoul Coins for its evolution.
If you want your own Gholdengo, you must first obtain a Gimmighoul. Defeat the chest form of Gimmighoul to receive Gimmighoul Coins. Once you have 999 of them, you can level up your Gimmighoul Pokémon, and it will transform into Gholdengo.
That’s about all there is to know about this peculiar 1000th Pokémon, but as always, there’s plenty more to explore in the Paldea region. Get out there with this gilded 'mon and see what you can find!
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
