Barron Trump will be attending college in New York, according to his father, former President Donald Trump. The Trump family has worked hard to keep Barron’s life private and out of the public eye. However, since turning 18 this year, he has been making more appearances, leading to speculation about where Trump’s youngest son will attend college in the fall.
On Tuesday, Trump told the New York Post that Barron will indeed attend college in New York. “He’s going to announce it soon. He’s all set,” Trump said. “He’s always been a really good student.” When asked if the school Barron selected was New York University (NYU), Trump mentioned he would share that information “off the record.”
There is some uncertainty regarding whether Trump meant New York state or New York City. Nevertheless, it is logical to assume that Barron would choose a school in Manhattan, considering his family still has a home there and it is where he grew up.
New York City has numerous colleges, and Trump has been promoting Barron’s choice as being a good school, which leads many to suspect it is one of the top institutions in the city. Columbia University is ranked as the best school in New York according to U.S. News & World Report, followed closely by NYU and Fordham University.
Additionally, if we look beyond the city, Cornell University in Ithaca and Syracuse University are also highly regarded on New York's list of best colleges. Barron graduated from Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, in May, and since then, Trump has teased where his son will attend college. He mentioned on Fox & Friends Weekend that Barron was accepted “everywhere” he applied.
“He’s amazing actually, in a certain way,” Trump said. “He’s tall, good-looking ... a very good student. And he’s applied to colleges and gets into everywhere he goes. He’s very sought after from that standpoint; he’s a very smart guy. He’s a very tall guy. And he’s a great kid. He’s cool, he’s pretty cool, I’ll tell ya.”
Trump also shared that the college protests over the Israel-Gaza war might have influenced Barron’s decision. He suggested that the riots could make someone consider “going to a different kind of college” since many institutions do not experience such unrest.
The ongoing speculation about Barron’s college plans sparked rumors that he might attend the University of Pennsylvania, where both his father and several siblings studied. In September 2023, Trump informed Megyn Kelly that Barron was “thinking about” attending UPenn.
If Barron opts for NYU and chooses to live on campus, he could move in between August 24 and August 31. However, it’s also possible that he may not live on campus at NYU, or that arrangements will be made for his move-in process.
