Kyle Busch's Future: Career Moves And Family Passion Beyond Racing

Kyle Busch's future in NASCAR has huge unanswered questions

Kyle Busch, a legendary figure in the NASCAR Cup Series, has recently hinted at a potential career move following his eventual retirement from active racing. Despite currently driving in NASCAR, Busch has begun exploring future opportunities that might extend his professional involvement with the sport. Given his known stature as a two-time Champion (in 2015 and 2019) and record holder for the most wins across NASCAR's three major series, talk of his retirement is generating considerable attention from fans.

According to the driver, his future - like many other drivers - may well lie in broadcasting. There has been speculation about his transition into media roles, supported by recent appearances on the program "NASCAR Inside the Playoffs." These experiences in broadcasting have sparked curiosity regarding his future career.

His involvement in media has drawn parallels with other drivers who have successfully transitioned into similar roles. Figures such as Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, and Jeff Gordon have all taken on broadcasting positions post-retirement, while Denny Hamlin balances driving alongside a podcast.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has integrated into media sectors following his departure from racing, providing a potential template of success for Busch to follow. In a conversation with Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, Busch admits a tentative interest in broadcasting.

“Maybe. I haven’t really given it a whole lot of thought,” Busch stated. “I’m just dipping my toe into this and giving it a shot and seeing what the networks think, what the producers think and everybody behind the scenes to see if I have a voice and an opinion later on down the road.”

Former drivers entering broadcasting have been instrumental in promoting the sport and its athletes further. Formula 1 is the perfect example of this, with professionals from a number of roles, not just drivers, but strategists and designers too having their say on the sport for the likes of Sky Sports F1 and even Formula 1 itself.

“I see Harvick doing it, I’ve seen Darrell Waltrip do it and have seen plenty of other ex-drivers go into that role. One really good thing about that is how much you can talk up the drivers and how hard it is and about the things you love.”

“I’ve made a great living here, so you’d love to be able to give back, where some of the other guys just disappear off into the sunset and you never really hear from them again.”

Beyond broadcasting, Busch’s interests are firmly rooted in his son’s racing. His son, Brexton, is currently ripping it up on his own tracks, and Busch wants to be a part of his journey as he finds his footing in motorsport.

“But I also enjoy (9-year-old son) Brexton racing, and I want to be a part of that as well. I enjoy the dirt track aspect of that, being able to get out there and go race at the tracks where he’s racing.”

“So as long as it fits within a schedule — I don’t want to stretch myself too much and put myself out there where I over-commit,” Busch explained.
