On Wednesday, during an appearance on Kelly Ripa's podcast, Let's Talk Off Camera, Lowe hinted at some intriguing plot developments for the sequel. One notable suggestion was the potential fate of Judd Nelson's character, Alec Newberry, raising questions about how the story will evolve. When asked about Judd Nelson's involvement in St. Elmo's Fire 2, Lowe remarked, "So far he’s in. But you know, he could always be the guy in the coffin." This playful banter raised laughter from Ripa, who quickly pleaded, "No, don’t kill Judd, don’t put him in the coffin." Lowe emphasized the importance of weaving elements from their own lives into the storyline, hinting at a deeper and more personal narrative.

Lowe also noted that the project is progressing slowly but positively, as the writers are being very selective with their approach. He pointed out that the underlying theme of St. Elmo's Fire is still relevant today, emphasizing that it's never too late to find happiness, especially as the characters navigate the complexities of adulthood, relationships, and personal growth.

Reflecting on the character he played, Billy Hicks, Lowe humorously suggested that since the original film, his character might have moved to New York City and taken a job as a saxophonist for Billy Ocean. This light-hearted take offers a glimpse into the creative possibilities for the sequel as fans eagerly await more updates on this beloved story.
