Video footage of Donald Trump's son Barron Trump speaking with a "Slovenian" accent as a small child has resurfaced on social media. As the youngest of the former president's five children, and Donald Trump's only child with wife Melania Trump, 18-year-old Barron Trump had largely been kept out of the spotlight over the years that his father was in office. However, in recent months, the teen is getting more involved in his father's political scene.
Barron Trump notably received a standing ovation at one of his father's campaign rallies in July. This week, former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said that Donald Trump is turning to his youngest son for advice on attracting support from younger voters in his presidential campaign.
With the increase in attention surrounding Barron Trump, a video was this week shared on X, formerly Twitter, that showed a then-4-year-old Barron Trump speaking with an accent much like that of his Slovenian-born mother.
"Here's footage of Barron speaking at the age of 4—with a Slovenian accent," the social media user wrote in part, as they posted the clip taken from an April 2010 appearance that the Trumps made on CNN's Larry King Live.
In the footage, New York City-born Barron Trump is told by his mother to say, "Hi Larry," prompting the youngster to enthusiastically wave to the camera before jumping around his father's office as his parents looked on.
"I like my suitcase," Barron Trump said in clipped tones as he picked up the item. He then asked his mother: "I have to go to school now?"
"Yeah, you will have lunch and then you go to school," said the former first lady, who migrated to the U.S. in 1996 and has been married to Donald Trump since 2005.
Later on in the clip, the boy is shown kneeling before his open suitcase as his father said: "Now you can do reading, writing, and arithmetic."
As the footage came to an end, Donald and Melania Trump are seen in the studio opposite Larry King, who commented of their son: "He has an accent."
"He does," Melania Trump said. "He spends most of the time with me."
When asked by late broadcaster King for his thoughts on his son's accent, Donald Trump said: "I think it's great. Anything he does is OK with me."
"He speaks three languages, actually," Melania Trump added, prompting her husband to say that their son is a "smart one."
While Barron Trump has rarely been seen speaking in the media to date, footage shared on X earlier this year showed him using American tones as he stood in conversation during a crowded gathering.
After years of keeping a relatively low profile, it was announced in May that Barron Trump, who had graduated from high school that month, would be a Florida delegate at July's Republican National Convention.
