The long-awaited Season 2 of the Yellowstone prequel, 1923, has a new filming location that is generating buzz among fans! This popular series, streaming on Paramount+, stars acclaimed actors Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. As a sequel to the hit series 1883 and a pivotal part of the Yellowstone universe, 1923 explores the origin stories of the Dutton family.
After wrapping up its first season in February 2023, it was officially announced that 1923 would return for a second and final season. Filming commenced in June, with Austin, Texas, as the primary location. Recently, San Antonio has also been confirmed as a new filming site, bringing excitement to the local community.
"The film division of the City of San Antonio's Department of Arts & Culture is actively working with production personnel to facilitate the Paramount+ TV series 1923's filming in San Antonio this fall," stated Stacey Norton, the marketing, film, and music administrator for the city's Department of Arts & Culture, as reported by KSAT.
Oscar winner Helen Mirren will be on location in San Antonio, with locals sharing their thoughts about the big TV production, as per the San Antonio Report.
"We have been impressed with their attention to detail and commitment to keeping us informed, and we are eagerly anticipating this project, particularly for its potential benefits to the community, and hope it will pave the way for more filming opportunities in downtown San Antonio," said Canela Kern, owner of the Canela Vintage store.
Filming in San Antonio will take place in stages and is set to begin in September. Set designers will arrive in the city to transform local streets back in time to align with the show's historical era.
"Hearing the possibility that they may walk by our window on the show, or even possibly walk in the door ... it’s super exciting and cool for me," expressed Brielle Insler from the San Antonio-based political and nonprofit consulting firm Düable Brand Trust.
1923 is set in Montana and focuses on one generation of the Dutton family during the Great Depression, drought, and prohibition. The season finale showcased a long-awaited standoff between Jacob Dutton (played by Ford) and oil baron Donald Whitfield, who attempts to seize the Dutton family property for his own interests.
Paramount+ has yet to announce the premiere date for the second season of 1923. The first season premiered with record-breaking viewership, making it the most-watched debut on Paramount+ in the U.S. with 7.4 million viewers, solidifying its place as the biggest series premiere on cable in 2022.
