Snapchill Canned Coffee Products Recalled Due To Botulinum Toxin Risk

Snapchill recalls canned coffee products due to potential botulism risk

All canned coffee products manufactured by Snapchill are being recalled because they could contain the deadly botulinum toxin. This alarming news has raised concerns among consumers, especially coffee lovers who rely on Snapchill's products. The company initiated a voluntary recall on June 17 after discovering that its current manufacturing process might lead to the growth and production of this dangerous toxin in low acid canned foods.

The recall applies to all products within their expiration date, with a comprehensive list released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Snapchill products come in various metal can sizes ranging from 7 to 12 oz and are sold under multiple roaster and brand names. Consumers can identify the affected items by looking for "produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC" located underneath the nutrition facts panel or "Snapchill Coffee" on the label.

Botulism, a rare but potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause symptoms such as general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulties with speaking or swallowing, according to the FDA. Symptoms may not appear until six hours to two weeks after consuming food containing the toxin. The agency advises anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek immediate medical attention.

The issue was brought to light when the FDA informed Snapchill that the low acid canned foods process used for manufacturing the recalled products was not filed with them, a requirement under regulation. Although no illnesses have been reported linked to the product, the company is taking the situation seriously and is currently working to notify the FDA properly.

According to a Snapchill spokesperson, "Snapchill has provided a wide range of roasters nationwide with 'Snapchill' cold coffee since 2019, without any known consumer cases of botulism." However, due to the recent notification from the FDA about the unfiled process, the company has decided to act proactively.

The company wants to emphasize that this recall was voluntary and that it has no knowledge of any instances where its products contained the botulinum toxin. They apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause and are collaborating with the FDA to resolve the issue and resume production within safety standards.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to either destroy them or return them to Snapchill or their place of purchase for a refund. Snapchill, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, utilizes patented technology to brew and cool its coffee, ensuring optimal flavor without dilution from ice.
