Mastering Wordle The Ultimate Guide to Starting Words and Strategies

Some days it can be a breeze solving Wordle, but there are others when even the best players need a helping hand. The game has taken the world by storm, bringing both joy and frustration to players everywhere. With each new puzzle, fans of this daily word game find themselves in a race against the clock, determined to guess the five-letter mystery word.

Newsweek asked the Artificial Intelligence service, ChatGPT, what it thought was the best way to solve the word puzzle. The insights provided by AI can be incredibly useful for players who are eager to improve their skills and enhance their strategies.

But first, what is Wordle and how do you play? The daily game is the most popular on the New York Times games app and website. The newspaper bought Wordle in early 2022 from its creator, Josh Wardle. It's fairly simple to play, as a mystery five-letter word appears that needs to be solved. Players type in a word they think it might be and try to identify the word in six attempts or fewer using a process of elimination.

A color-coded tile system helps players out. A green tile means the letter is in the word and in the correct spot. A yellow tile means the letter is in the word but in the wrong location. And a gray tile means the letter is not in the word at all.

ChatGPT recommended picking a starting word with a good mix of common letters, like A, E and consonants like R, T, S. This helps maximize your chances of identifying letters early, it says, and that helps to maximize their initial information.

The AI system also suggested playing Wordle with a cool head and not rushing your guesses. "Don't fixate on one potential word too early. Be open to adjusting your guesses based on new information," said ChatGPT. "Don't rush. Take your time to think about your guesses based on the feedback."
