The Fab Five are back! So, what time should you be ready with a glass of wine to watch five dudes help deserving, hard-working people step outside their comfort zone? Queer Eye Season 2 releases on Netflix Friday, June 15 at 3:01 a.m. EDT. For folks out West, that’s 12:01 a.m. PDT. Set your timers, and get your tissues.
If reality shows like Jersey Shore, The Bachelor, and Survivor aren’t your style, you probably binge-watched the first season’s eight personal makeovers. Or perhaps you’re a fan of the original series. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which ran from 2003 to 2007 on Bravo, was later shortened to just Queer Eye for inclusivity. The remake features Jonathan Van Ness, Bobby Berk, Tan France, Karamo Brown, and Antoni Porowski, embodying a similar spirit that aims to connect individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
The crew transforms all aspects of the contestants' lives—hair, fashion, living spaces, eating habits, and personal interactions. We all want to look and feel fabulous, right? Ultimately, that’s the message Queer Eye sends, and it resonates even more in the upcoming season.
Though the first season of the Fab Five received mostly positive feedback, there were concerns about inclusivity, particularly regarding gender representation. Season 1 only featured men, but the trailer for Season 2 introduces a transgender man alongside several women. “We’re doin’ a lady!” Bobby announces cheerfully from the front seat as each episode begins. “I haven’t done a lady in years,” Antoni adds, sparking cheers from the group.
Van Ness shared with Entertainment Tonight that the new season presents an opportunity to explore deeper narratives. “You got a chance to know the five of us, and the [season two] stories just get a little more into our lives as well. So we’re excited to show a little more of ourselves with everyone,” he said.
While waiting for the new episodes to drop, you can catch Tan transforming Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson, or watch the Fab Five makeover James Corden's guitarist.
